Annyeong (안녕) or “Hi” in english translation.

Mainly targeting the International students in Dublin, this device helps them feel more at home. A small ritual that we do is greet each other, we do that to be polite when we go into our homes but it also gives a sense of security and knowledge on who’s home.

The device allows those who are away from their families, feel welcomed in their home after a long day. It’ll sense you come into your room via a motion sensor and will welcome you into your home on the LCD screen.

And since it’s mainly for International students. The button allows for it to change to 5 different languages, English, Mandarin, German, French and Spanish.

Arduino and wiring

The wiring of the mechanics inside. With the use of the Arduino UNO, an LCD Screen and a motion sensor. We started with just testing how the motion sensor would work with the Arduino and see what could be written on the LCD screen.

First Box Prototype on Illustrator

First wooden prototype

We used 3mm MDF Wood for this project. From the illustrator design, we were able to see the size and the form of the design we made. With this information, we were able to change measurements.

We clearly miscalculated with the design but the height of the form is what we wanted. And also clarify the LCD size and fit.

The form was a good fit but the base didn’t fit.

Fitting the mechanics inside

In the future if we were able to continue with this project we were thinking of connecting the product to the IOT(Internet of things). For it to be able to connect to your phone and give you notifications through the day. Here is a video of what we hope it could be.
